Volunteers Needed for We Don’t Waste’s Fundraiser: Fill A Plate For Hunger

Thursday, September 23 • 4:30pm – 8:30pm MT

WIS volunteers will be grouped together and could be stationed at the registration and check-in tables, directing attendees to their seats, serving as auction spotters, monitoring waste stations, monitoring the silent auction, or start the checkout process. Pizza will be provided for all general volunteers. Attire: Please wear black jeans or pants and comfortable shoes. We will provide volunteers with a We Don’t Waste shirt. Note: The event venue, ReelWorks Denver (formerly EXDO Event Center), recently announced that they will be requiring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test for all attendees (including staff and volunteers) of any event.

WIS Tour: A1 Organics Compost Facility

On September 30, join the WIS community as we get a special 90-minute tour of the A1 Compost Facility in Keenesburg, CO. We will get a chance to tour the compost fields to learn about how compost is made at an industrial compost facility with tour guide and Marketing Director Clinton Sander. You will have a chance to ask all your compost questions along the way!

This special webinar with panelists Shiela DeForest (Mrs. Eco-International) and Ngozi Chukwueke (AmeriCorps CivicSpark Fellow & Brown Girl Green Intern) will take a unique look at why immigration is important to creating a sustainable future and reducing our climate impact from growing gardens at home to creating jobs in renewable energy. Immigration is generally good for, and part of, sustainable communities. It lends diversity, economic energy and a capacity for long term sustainable development.

Cannabis Sustainable Design & Environmental Impacts of Cannabis Cultivation

with guest speaker with Kaitlin Urso, consultant w/ the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment

Learn about the environmental impacts of cannabis cultivation and manufacturing along with sustainable design opportunities for facilities. Guest speaker, Kaitlin Urso, will discuss the revolutionary pilot project between a brewery and marijuana cultivation to reuse CO2 captured during fermentation that is then fed to the plants. There will be plenty of time to ask questions about cannabis, craft brewing, and Kaitlin’s career path as a female engineer in the environmental protection field.

Waste-Less Dinner & Conversation with the Chef at Sullivan Scrap Kitchen

Join us on Wednesday, November 10 at 6:00pm for a private 3 course dinner with Sullivan Scrap Kitchen and head Chef Terence Rogers. Chef Terence will prepare a special vegetarian meal for our community to emphasize the ease and possibilities of using all the parts of vegetables to reduce our food waste. Chef Terence will provide an overview of each course and a 20 minute Q&A between the entree and dessert. You can ask your questions like, do you really need to peel carrots? Or what do you do with the leaves from beets? This is an opportunity to get to ask all your food questions with the Chef and eat a delicious dinner with a like-minded community! Menu details to come soon.

Come join Women in Sustainability for a fun day of volunteering, helping We Don’t Waste, in the greater Denver area, recover food for homeless shelters and those in need! We will be helping with the organization’s Distribution Center to help pack boxes for the Drive Thru Markets.
