WIS Annual Holiday “Beach” Party & CARE Celebration

WIS Holiday “Beach” Party and CARE Celebration at Max Gill and Grill’s Tiki Hut Room (new location)

We can’t wait to host our annual holiday party and year-end celebration – because we CARE about you!

REGISTRATION is REQUIRED for this event. Space is limited.

Women in Sustainability is taking their holiday party back to the beaches, but in a new location! This year, we’ll be hittin’ the waves at Max Gill & Grill’s Tiki Hut Room on December 6 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm! While it’s the middle of winter, we can at least pretend we’re at the beach for a few hours!

Our holiday party will take our 2023 worries away as we sip beachy cocktails, enjoy food and dance the evening away! This event is open to the WIS community to connect and have fun! We will have a short presentation and of course, a few surprises throughout the evening.

This event is free for all paid WIS members and $25 for non-members.

Dress in your beach-themed shirts or your holiday party best! Just remember, it’s still December in Colorado and we won’t have sand, but may have snow! 🙂

Music and menu TBA. Max Gill and Grill offers alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to meet everyone’s needs.

Attendees will be responsible for their own beverages and any additional food.

More info to come soon!

(NOT SO) SILENT DRAWING

Bring extra cash (or your card)! We’re working on some awesome giveaways as a part of our silent drawing! What is a silent drawing? Well it’s a cross between a drawing (aka raffle) and a silent auction – buy tickets and put your ticket in the bucket for an item YOU want to win at random selection! All proceeds will be donated to Women in Sustainability, a 501c3 tax-deductible organization.

This event is limited to a capacity of 50 people so please RSVP if you are interested in joining the holiday festivities. If you RSVP and cannot attend, please be sure to cancel your reservation. The space is reserved for the WIS holiday party that evening so we can party together! As this will be indoors with a tight(er) capacity, anyone is welcome to wear a mask as they feel comfortable.

Ready for a beachin’ good time? We will see you on December 6!

Questions about the event, please contact Becky at becky@womeninsustainability.org.

Community Voices Series – Biosolids Reuse: Unclogging the Stigma

Community Voices Series – Biosolids Reuse: Unclogging the Stigma Surrounding this Fragrant Topic, Anna Howell, Jacobs

October 2023 Topic: Biosolids Reuse: Unclogging the Stigma Surrounding this Fragrant Topic, Anna Howell, Jacobs

About the Webinar:

WIS Members share their expertise with the community in this special virtual series.

Description:

Have you ever pondered while going to the bathroom what happens with our poop … er, biosolids, when flushed? No? You’re not alone. Once we flush, it’s out of sight, out of mind. However, it’s important to understand this taboo topic when it comes to sustainability. Luckily for us, it’s Anna’s favorite topic of discussion. With her sustainability work at Jacobs, Anna studies human biosolids to find sustainable solutions to our human waste and how it can be reused for our future. As growing concerns for access to clean drinking water (and PFAs), it’s important to learn how poop and sustainability are interconnected and why we should be more open to the conversation regarding our bathroom behaviors. If you are feeling weird about the topic, no worries! Anna, our Biosolid Babe, makes the conversation fun and approachable by using her expertise and charisma to educate others. You’ll leave the conversation feeling a little more light and ready to talk sustainable sh*t with your friends, family and colleagues!

About the Presenter:

Anna is a dedicated Corporate Planeteer with a mission to create a more connected and sustainable world. She is currently the OMFS Sustainability Lead at Jacobs, an engineering firm that provides a full spectrum of professional services including the operations and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment, facilities and city services.

Anna has taken the plunge into the heart of sustainable solutions. You will often catch her passionately discussing unconventional topics like poop and how an often-overlooked waste has the power to transform and heal our planet. Her journey in wastewater operations has fortified her belief that there is a treasure in the flush. Understanding the impact of something every human regularly evacuates (hopefully quite regularly) is a crucial mission that Anna proudly embraces.

With unfiltered enthusiasm, please join her as we discuss turning waste into worth, complete with a healthy pile of poo puns.

Just BE-Cause UnNetworking Event

Just BE-Cause UnNetworking Event at location TBA

We’re hosting another open un-networking event on Wednesday, November 8 from 6:00p – 8:00pm MT. Location TBA. The theme for our November event is CALM!

Let’s focus on calm before we head into a crazy holiday season!

What is Un-Networking?

At WIS we believe you’re more than your work. That’s why we create a space to come and Just BE …

Be Together. Be Happy. Be Sad. Be Overwhelmed. Be with like-minded friends. Whatever you need to BE, you can BE! BE YOU!

We’ll have discussion prompts for you and encourage our attendees to meet and connect over the “prompts” and discuss more than “what you do”. Discuss your pets, love of nature, family, hobbies and really anything you CARE about! Work may come into the discussion, but we love getting to know each other outside of the generic work conversation.

We may also have a chance to “circle up” for quick introductions. This is dependent on the number of attendees, location, etc, and is not guaranteed. Otherwise, there is no specific programming for this event.

This space is a NO SALES zone. Please do not attend to sell your products / services to attendees. This is about relationship building, supporting one another and connecting without the sales / work talk. Plenty of spaces exist for people to sell – this isn’t it! Lead with CARE – considerate, authentic, respectful and empahtetic.

Attendees are responsible for their own food and beverage. WIS will select a location with alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.

This event is open to all interested in learning more about WIS and meeting others in the sustainability and environmental space. Attendees do not have to be members or identify as a woman.
